Polpette alla pizzaiola


Ingredients

  • 400 g (14 oz) ground meat (beef, chicken, or turkey)

  • 1 egg

  • 50 g (1/2 cup) breadcrumbs

  • 30 g (1/4 cup) grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 garlic clove, minced (optional)

  • Chopped parsley, to taste

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 200 g (7 oz) tomato sauce

  • Dried oregano, to taste

  • 100 g (3.5 oz) mozzarella, cubed

  • Extra-virgin olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the meatballs: In a bowl, mix the ground meat, egg, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, parsley, salt, and pepper until combined.

  2. Form the meatballs: Shape small balls, placing a mozzarella cube in the center of each and sealing well.

  3. Bake: Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 15 minutes.

  4. Make the sauce: In a skillet, warm a little oil, add tomato sauce, salt, pepper, and oregano, and simmer for 5-10 minutes.

  5. Finish baking: Pour the sauce over the meatballs on the baking sheet and bake for another 10-15 minutes.

Serve hot with a sprinkle of fresh oregano!
