Polpette alla pizzaiola
Ingredients
400 g (14 oz) ground meat (beef, chicken, or turkey)
1 egg
50 g (1/2 cup) breadcrumbs
30 g (1/4 cup) grated Parmesan cheese
1 garlic clove, minced (optional)
Chopped parsley, to taste
Salt and pepper, to taste
200 g (7 oz) tomato sauce
Dried oregano, to taste
100 g (3.5 oz) mozzarella, cubed
Extra-virgin olive oil
Instructions
Prepare the meatballs: In a bowl, mix the ground meat, egg, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, parsley, salt, and pepper until combined.
Form the meatballs: Shape small balls, placing a mozzarella cube in the center of each and sealing well.
Bake: Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 15 minutes.
Make the sauce: In a skillet, warm a little oil, add tomato sauce, salt, pepper, and oregano, and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
Finish baking: Pour the sauce over the meatballs on the baking sheet and bake for another 10-15 minutes.
Serve hot with a sprinkle of fresh oregano!
